The Good Wool Shop opened in March 2015 and offers a wide range of yarns and accessories for knitting and crochet, along with ribbons, buttons, Gutermann sewing thread and other haberdashery supplies. Shop owner Isabel Jordan is a great enthusiast for natural yarns and British wool and stocks these in everything from laceweight to super chunky, plus several ranges of crochet cotton. Yarn brands include Rowan, Blacker Yarns and Artesano, Erika Knight, Patons, Wendy, Peter Pan and Robin. There is a wide selection of knitting needles and crochet hooks, with classic Milward aluminium and plastic alongside KnitPro Symphonie, Basix Birch and Takumi Bamboo needles and soft touch Waves crochet hooks. There’s a good choice of books and magazines, plus knitting kits for children.
The shop hosts a weekly Knit and Natter group on a Thursday afternoon, runs a Tuesday evening group in a neighbouring wine bar and runs knitting and crochet classes and workshops.
The Good Wool Shop can be found within Derbyshire’s on Chapel Lane in central Formby, only 25 minutes by train from Liverpool and 15 minutes from Southport. The shop shares premises with a card and gift shop, The Flower Corner florist and Cathy’s Tea Rooms.
Opening hours are 9 – 5pm Monday to Saturday, summer holidays 10 – 4.30.
